1. When I plug in my EmbedRF wireless transceiver to the PC via the USB adapter board, I get a prompt that that says the hardware is not recognized.

Several of the CDs that we have distributed with the EmbedRF Desktop Pro software on it, do not include the driver for the USB adapter board. To install this driver, you can download and run this driver file

2. I would like to use the EmbedRF as a simple datalogger to record data using one wireless transceiver and wirelessly send it to a desktop PC. Is this possible?

Yes, you can purchase the EmbedRF Development Kit which comes with two EmbedRF Standard PCBs along with a USB Interface Module. You can use one of the EmbedRF Standards as your data collector and configure it to wirelessly send data to the other EmbedRF Standard which is connected to your PC via the USB Interface Module. Our EmbedRF Desktop Software Suite can be used to store the data into a Microsoft Access database.

3. What is the longest range of the EmbedRF Standard?

40-50 feet. However, if you use a different antenna, you can get a range out to 100 feet. Contact us to find out more.

4. What intervals can the EmbedRF transmit?

The EmbedRF can transmit at intervals ranging from 0.25 seconds up to 12.75 seconds in 50 ms increments.

7. Can I use Labview to interface with the EmbedRF wireless transceiver?

Yes you can control the EmbedRF wireless transceiver via the EmbedRF USB Adapter Board using any desktop software that can interface with a standard commport including Labview, Java, C++, C#. We have a Labview VI sample that demonstrates how you can do this.

Fred Eady was kind enough to write a review about the EmbedRF technology in the October 2008 edition of servo magazine. For this article, Mr. Eady developed an API showing how to control and configure an EmbedRF wireless transceiver using a PIC18 microcontroller. You may download this API here.

9. Can the RSSI be used to do positional tracking?

Yes, however, the RSSI method for doing positional tracking is inherently crude. Please take a look at our positional tracking application note for more information.
